Scoring
Often a difficult aspect to explain to a new player. At racketpro, we have found the best way to accomplish introucing scoring to a newer player to combine both statement of facts and demonstration. It is through the act of seeing AND doing, that they best grasp the complexities of scoring. In traditional side out scoring, which will be the scoring method highlighted throughout this course, a team can only score a point in the event that they are serving. As the serving team, the server must call out three numbers before hitting their serve. The first number, the score of the serving team. The second number, the score of the returning team. And the third number, their serving position. The serving position, will either be a one or a two, and throughout the serving rotation, the number will remain with the player. In the event the serving team wins the rally, a point is added to their score. Additionally, the individual that served the previous point, keeps serving, however, they will switch places at the baseline with their partner and thus now be serving from the other side. Only the serving team, once scoring a point, switches side. That is the only condition in which players on the same team will switch side. At this point, you've probably given enough background to the players, and it is best to demonstrate to allow them to fully grasp the concept.
